The question remains “What do you give a mother who deserves the world and all you have is $3.00 in your account?” Well here is a playlist you can blast around the house or put on a CD (if you still do that) and present to your mom. These songs are songs that Hip Hop has birthed to remind us that moms do more than we can imagine. If you got it like that follow Kanye and get your momma a private orchestra hearing, but if you want the bootleg, $3.00 version, buy her a card, put these songs on a playlist, color a bulb pink, lock her in a room turn the light on and there you have it, a private concert for mama dearest.

1. Hey Mama, Kanye West - Late Registration

“Forrest Gump mama said, life is like a box of chocolates
My mama told me go to school, get your doctorate
Somethin to fall back on, you could profit with
But still supported me when I did the opposite”

2. Dear Mama, 2pac - Me Against the World

“You always was a black queen, mama
I finally understand
for a woman it ain’t easy tryin to raise a man
You always was committed
A poor single mother on welfare, tell me how ya did it
There’s no way I can pay you back
But the plan is to show you that I understand
You are appreciated”

3. December 4th, JAY Z - The Black Album

“At 10 pounds when i was born i didn’t give her no pain
Although through the years i gave her her fair share
I gave her her first real scare
I made it from birth and i got here
She knows my purpose wasn’t purpose
I ain’t perfect i care”

4. Dance, Nas - God’s Son

“I wish you were here,
I miss you more each second I breathe
You resting in peace forever I accepted you free
A blessing to me, I see you dressed in all white
Smiling at me, happy knowing everything’s all right
If only I could hear your voice and your laughter
Just one more time, my chest would be filled up with sunshine

5. You & The 6, Drake - If You’re Reading This it’s Too Late

“They will not tear nothing down I built this home for you momma
Know I don’t call enough momma
I just been working with so little time for personal momma
Hard labor let me pay the price
You and the six raised me right that shit saved my life”

6. All I Got is You, Ghostface Killah - Ironman

“I sit and think about
All the times we did without, yeah
I always said I woudn’t cry
When I saw tears in your eyes
I understand that daddy’s not here now
But some way or somehow, I will always be around, yeah
All things that I did from this to them
Oh from drugs to being there
Being down and out and I love you always”

7. I Love My Momma, Snoop Dogg - No Limit Top Dogg

“She the queen in my life, and I'ma make sure she gon’ shine again
She taught me everythang, but she didn’t charge a fee
She taught me everythang, except how to see a G
For the nine months you carried, I hope you bury me
instead of the other way around, and I put that on Dogg Pound”

8. Mama Raised Me, Master P - Da Last Don

“Daddy wasn’t home so mama raised me
I'ma thug but still mama bathed me”

In all honesty this song has got to be one of my FAVORITE KP Coolin’ tracks! KP released this song about a year ago and later added it on to hisBambooproject, which can all be found on Soundcloud. Maybe the sole reason I love this song is because i know KP personally and i have never heard a song that accurately displays an artists so much in a song. From beginning to end, you could feel the positive energy that fits his character, he goes on to express real life situations that not only he personally experiences as a growing artist but I am sure many others have. The distractions and sometimes doubt from not only yourself but other friends and family. The song altogether is a song of motivation, a song that just says you got this, keep hustling. KP’s execution of this song was beautiful and honestly showed his talent for rapping since its release and he continues to make this story spirited rapping. KP overall is just another example of the true music that comes our of Broward.

it’s April 18th and I am cussing myself at the fact that i haven’t taken a listen to OVO artist, DVSN’s “SEPT 5th” album until now. The album is also produced by OVO’s own Nineteen85. The project is the perfect mix of confessions and passion with almost too good to be true power to immerse you into its baselines and neon flashy productions. The album is like melting into a pillow of sex and will leave your body wanting more. Yes, i am both crying with passion and begging for my man to touch me as i listen to this. This is a  late night in your feelings album or even a let’s just make love all night album, either way you’ll feel  this in your inner soul. This project is the ultimate representation of the  OVO label’s power to create seductive and heart-wrenching music.

Listen to this album on all major streaming sites and preferably with a nice blunt in your hand.

K.I.D.S (Kings In Damned Society) are finally raising from the grounds and letting y’all know what real music from Miami sounds like! In this visual, which is a twist on Pusha T and Kenrdrick Lamar’s “Nosetalgia”. Visuals were created by Miami’s very own Unkle Luc. K.I.D.S artists Freddie Grahamz and GH0$T are able to skillfully remake this song and intertwine Miami to the T, as they shot the video in Downtown Miami. The two artists are defiantly individually talented, Freddie Grahamz takes on a soulful take in his art, speaking of life and death that both rich or poor men fear, as well as speak on the rap culture and how it is seen in the American eyes. While GH0$T takes on the hook and comes in with his also very experienced story telling in his rap, which not many can successfully pull off.

Man in all honesty, this is my first time listening to K.I.D.S and i was far from disappointed, the thought that there is so much hidden talent in the hearts of South Florida kills me because man on man! Aye man, all i have to say is take a listen to these boys!

Alright so let’s talk, we all know King of OVO, Waffle Colored Warrior, Captain Singin’ ass Nigga, the one and only Drake has the reputation of being “hated on” or just plain hating. Now, we all know Meek and Drake recently went head to head and basically blew up the internet and all music streaming programs with their great and not so great songs. However, Drake been doing this beef shit since he has been out and now we are about to run down the Top 5 Drake Beefs!

image

At number 5, we have the short lived beef between Common and Drake. The drama apparently began over Drake and Serena’s supposed relationship. Although Common has publicly announced that beef has been squashed, i’m bringing this shit back up because, well, i’m Petty Wap.

In this short film of beef between the two, some nice shots were fired. Common set a cannon at Drake with his track “Sweet” where Common called Drake soft and no match for himself. “Yeah, man, y’all niggas man, you soft muthfuckers”/ “Singing all around me man, la la la, you ain’t muthafucking Frank Sinatra”/ “You ain’t the type of nigga to go against me, you get in my presence you gon’ feel like a little hoe, you ain’t a man yet, you tryna’ be somebody else”

Well, popular culture disagreed as Drake’sStay Schemin’” verse was gladly remembered as he rapped “It’s feeling like rap changed, it was a time it was rugged” / “Back when if a nigga reached it was for the weapon, nowadays niggas reach just to sell their record.” Quickly after, however, Common came and shot that down with his remix to “Stay Schemin’”, calling Drake out by name and calling him Canada Dry. “You ain’t wet nobody, nigga, you Canada dry” / “Soft nigga, make no mistake, I’m talking to Drake” / “It’s the remix. Rick Ross, Common, and that hoe ass nigga” / “No, man-to-man, don’t hide behind them other niggas” / “Nah, this man-to-man. You can’t run behind them man” / “This is some real man shit right here”

image

Now the beef between Drake and one of the OG gangstas of hip hop and popular culture, Diddy, was very short but because of the “physical altercation” that landed Drake in the ER is the reason why its number 4 on this list.

It’s reported that Diddy took a nice blow at Drake outside of Miami’s very own LIV night club back in December of 2014! Diddy did a quick piece on his ass after he yelled “You will never disrespect me again” I don’t know about any of you but i am almost sure thats said in all anime right before they go running head first into one another. This however wasn’t the case, Diddy gave him a quick daddy punch, and Drake was in the ER saying that the hit inflicted pain on a previous injury in his shoulder.

I know, I know, “But Drake didn’t even diss Diddy”, Nah, he didn’t but what Drake did do, was take the beat made by Boi-1da that Diddy sent to Drake for a verse, next thing Diddy knew it was playing with the lyrics for “0-100/The Catch up” After an interview with the co-producer of the beat, Frank Dukes, it seemed like Diddy didn’t even plan on using the track, he said “it wasn’t life changing enough” lol to that.

image

Now, at number 3, we bring you Pusha T, who was the first to publicly call out against Drake and his “music”. The beef however, may have started over Pusha T’s “Don’t Fuck With Me (Dreams Money can Buy)” his own make on Drake’s “Dreams Money can Buy”. In the song, many would say Pusha came for Drake when he rapped “Rappers on their sophomores, actin’ like they boss lords” / “I’m just the one to send you off, bonjour” / “See yourself as I pull up in that mirror tint” / “Skins vs. blouses, you mirror Prince”.

Although Pusha T denied that the track was in anyway a diss to Drake, the idea that it wasn’t was hard to believe as Pusha T dropped “Exodus 23:1″, which was a clear hit for Drake. The song criticized Drake for signing with Lil Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment label, “You signed to one nigga that signed to another nigga that’s signed to three niggas” / Now that’s bad luck”

Lil’ Wayne was the first to respond to Pusha T’s diss, with the track “Ghoulish”, but that ain’t mean shit to any of us that were watching the beef unravel. Drake then responded to Pusha T by saying “He didn’t understand why Pusha dissed him. He said he always loved his music.” Then at a live performance of “Club Paradise” (which also held diss to Pusha T “A couple of artists got words for me, that’s never fun” / “They say it’s on when they see me, that day don’t ever come” / “I’m never scared, they never real, I never run” / “When all is said and done, more is always said than done”) show in Washington, D.C. Drake added “If you was doing 16s when I was 16 and your shit still flopped and you switched teams, don’t talk to me my nigga.”

image

Now here we are with number 2 on the list featuring Mr.Twitter Fingers himself.  Don’t come for Meek now, he has his hits, he just ended up on the wrong end of the fight with this beef with Drake. Now we can all go back and recall that jam “Amen” featuring Drake and then later on down the line in 2015 with Drakes features on Meek’s album “Dreams Worth More Than Money” album. Soooo of course everyone was taken back when Meek tried to play Ghostbuster and start tweeting about Drake having a ghostwriter. (Which was later identified as Quentin Miller)

Meek took to twitter as he publicly attacked Drake for not writing his own lyrics, while Drake, was probably doing what Drake does, drinking some coconuts with Popcaan. Soon after the tweeting ended, Drake came out with “Charged Up”, the heat (or so we thought), the “Done doing favors for people” / “‘cause it ain’t like I need the money I make off a feature” / “I see you niggas having trouble going gold” / “turning into some so and sos that no one knows”

The silence continued from Meek and Drake, when all seemed to be at its end, Drake was just like “Nope!” and came out with “Back to Back” and its intentions were clear, to MURDER Meek’s career, “You love her, then you gotta give the world to her” / “Is that a world tour or your girl’s tour?”and“Yeah, trigger fingers turn to twitter fingers” / “You gettin’ bodied by a singin’ nigga"

Two days later Meek came out with his diss track “Wanna Know” which featured a sample from Quentin Miller, many looked at the track as a desperate track and way to recover, but not many were impressed, myself included.

Up to now there are still shots fired between both Drake and Meek, but we all know whose music we’ve heard more of.

image

Now for number 1, y’all can’t even lie this is one beef that we know no beginning and no ending. Theories have been that the feud between Drake and Chris began after Drake dating Rhianna shortly after the domestic violence charges in 2009. Others also believe the beef escalated after Drake and Karrueche were supposedly with one another while Chris was imprisoned.

Drake and Chris Brown were involved in a physical altercation on June 14, 2012, when Drake and his entourage allegedly threw glass bottles towards Chris Brown at WIP nightclub in New York. About eight people were injured during the brawl, including San Antonio Spurs star Tony Parker, who later said he nearly lost his left eye, and a tourist from Australia who suffered injuries to her face and head having to receive sixteen stitches for her head as a result. Given how crazy this beef got is another reason why Chris Brown and Drake’s beef have made it to number 1 on this list.

Few weeks after the altercation Chris Brown dropped diss track “I Don’t Like” remix featuring The Game“They throwin’ bottles I’m throwin’ models, just cause I give a bitch long pipe” / “OVO, you overdosed screamin’ YOLO no I live TWICE ooops hahahaha”

Over the next few weeks whispers and allegations went on and on about who was the instigator in the whole beef and brawl between the two artists. Until Chris dropped yet another diss track to Young Jeezy’s “R.I.P” featuring YG and Kendrick Lamar. “And all these fake ass artists, y'all niggas out here drawin'” / “Ok now dearly departed I bought a plane, I departed” / “And if you started from the bottom gon’ and come out the closet”

Drake didn’t release any tracks for Chris but in an interview stated:  "Stop preying on his insecurities. His insecurities are the fact that I make better music than him, that I’m more poppin’ than him, and that at one point in life, the woman that he loves fell into my lap. I did what a real nigga would do and treated her with respect, so she not up there talking down on me…. It shouldn’t be about wanting to see me and him tear each other down; we have an issue and it’s either gonna drag out or maybe in 10 years we’ll laugh about it over drinks. Just let us solve that shit… Let him put out the whatever project X or whatever that shit he’s working on. I’m gonna put out real shit for the people [with my new album]. I feel for him too. Every interview he does, [he] talk about me. It is what it is. I’m focused on [my] album and on everything else I got going on. I’m not thinking about that man at all or that girl”.

So originally when I thought of the series Throwback Tuesday’s, I had the idea to go back and go over classic albums and people who have changed hip hop as we know it. However, tonight on my way home, I got the biggest slap in the face. FUCK THOSE ALBUMS! We already have our opinions and the millions of other opinions on the Internet. So instead I have decided to dedicate Throwback Tuesday’s to the ladies and fellas still working their ass off to get that million dollar deal, whether it’s to pay for school and help family or even to just prove that your love for music was more than just rapping and singing.

So for the first episode of Throwback Tuesday, I’m hitting you guys with a 2-year oldie Cocky by South Florida natives Sauce Gawd and Kenny Turnup. First off this beat FUCKING SLAPS! These are two artist who are defiantly on the top 10 in Dade and Broward at the moment and to hear the music they dropped when it’s consider the “growing stage”? FLAME(<- click to understand)! Sauce Gawd delivered his per usual talent of being able to change lanes in his flow and style when delivering all while hitting points of amazing wordplay then  KENNY? Dropped in and continued the song with the slower and calmly delivered verses! Causing the song to just give you a prety dope ass eargasm. Deliverance from both artists was evident then and even now in songs like In Due Time by Sauce Gawd and Envy by Kenny Turnup! Man like Kanye West says without really saying it “I’ma let the beat talk”.

Late? Never. After finally sitting down and listening to Xali Unknwn’s most recent 11 track tape, The R.E.D EP, it makes you wonder why the fuck have people been so sleep. Broward resident never ceases to provide listeners with his raspy fiery notes and lyrics. The project features other local artists such as Devin Lee, Dxddy Mxck, Rell Burgundy, 757, and Marv Pax. This most recent tape, being Xali’s first official project available on iTunes, Spotify and other major music streaming companies, is one that carries his usual hard beats and ear grabbing tones yet it shows that Xali as an artist only continues to grow. Definitely a tape that shows that there is more than just trap and raging music coming out of the streets of Broward.

The R.E.D EP is avalible on Apple, Spotify, and Amazon. To keep updated with Xali’s music and future shows follow him on Soundcloud and Twitter

South Florida’s own K.Charles has released his first big project, which consists of 11 tracks of what he calls “Wavy Rap”. The project, Station 7Eighty6, is far from a disappointment and has paved K.Charles on to my top 5 new artists. The project features songs such as San Fran Blessings, Channel 52 and Vibe Out, all favorites from the project. After speaking to K, He shared that the project was really inspired by his watching Bernice Mac on TV, which is featured in the beginning of San Fran Blessings. Throughout the project you got the television feel from just the titles alone (such as Channel 52 and Commercial Break). As you listen, it’s as if each song is a different station with a different story to tell, Channel 52 shares the story of his wanting to succeed, the opinions he’s gotten along the way on his music as well as how everything around him just only continues to add to his need to succeed. Vibe Out, which was the very first track I listened to, grabbed me from legit the first 5 seconds and in all honesty will become my new High song. Now let’s pause, because Commercial Break, is EXACTLY as it is entitled! The song steps out yet fits in so perfectly with the melodic, wavy album with a more fast paced beat and increase in his flow, it’s like K.Charles had to show y’all that no matter how you give it to him, he’s going to take it and rip it to shreds. For someone so new, I am more than impressed, he is more than talented and deserves more credit than he gives himself.
